Okay, Oscars 2015 (Awarded for 2014)

As I said, this year didn't excite me much.  Plus, dad was frantically resolving our internet connection during half the ceremony.  I linked the winners below.

THE WINNERS

If you're coming here then you are interested in my random observations and feelings.  And there were some.  This year some of my favorite moments were on the Red Carpet, not the actual awards.

Melanie Griffith and Dakota Johnson

1.  I enjoyed seeing Dakota Johnson with her mother, Melanie Griffith, especially after seeing Dakota in 50 Shades of Grey earlier in the day.  A particularly uncomfortable and funny moment occurred when Good Morning America host Lara Spencer asked Melanie if she saw 50 Shades of Grey.  Melanie showed discomfort at the notion.  Lara acknowledged the sex, but emphasized there was so much more to the appearance.  Melanie said that she didn't need to see the film to know how talented her daughter is.  Dakota gave Melanie her permission to see the film.  Melanie still showed reluctance.  Generational tension was definitely in the air.  Or you can just watch it.

2.  Seeing Tara Kyle, American Sniper widow, on the Red Carpet was also a pleasure.  In my book, she looked like a star herself.

3.  Sara Haines, former Today Show and current Good Morning America host, was on the Red Carpet for the first time.  Sara Haines is from Iowa, evident in her lovely accent.  Her very presence was very Hollywood in itself.  I must confess that I find Sara Haines to be the cutest/sexiest/most beautiful newswoman ever.  Delightful.

Neil Patrick Harris did a decent job, but nothing that will stick with me. 

There were some awards I was happy with.  I was pleased to see Birdman win Best Cnematography, Director, and Picture (in that order of pleasure).  Back in November 2014, I sat next to New York Times bestselling author, Fangoria columnist, and indie filmmaker John Skipp during a Saturday breakfast for BizarroCon attendees.  He extolled Birdman throughout most of the breakfast, it seemed.  He emphasized the tracking shots, and the surprise that such a film was made and catching wind.  I made a special note to see it (I was already a little interested, but Skipp made it a priority).  When I saw it, I was thinking of Skipp's breakfast comments the whole time.  Nodding.  Birdman was my favorite of the major Oscar nominated films.  So, with memories of that breakfast in my heart, the success of Birdman took on a special significance.  My mother also was pulling for it simply because of Michael Keaton.  

Sadly, Reese Witherspoon did not win for Wild, by far my favorite actress of the year.  One of my favorite "serious" films of the year.  

Glad to see Interstellar win Best Visual Effects.

Glad to see "Glory" by John Legend and Common (from Selma) win Best Song.  The moving performance and the standing, teary-eyed ovation were simply classic.    

My Unfashionable Fashion Reactions:  

Marion Cotillard

I liked Marion Cotillard's white, patterned dress.  Brings out her skin tone and especially shoulders.  Reminds me of Sara Haine's lovely white dress (further above).

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon always looks pretty good these days.

Mathew McConaughey

Mathew McConaughey was sporting a very new look.  I'm intrigued what the significance is.

Lastly, it was raining.  I love the rain, and we get so little of it.  The rain was magical in and of itself, Oscars or no Oscars.  Eddie Redmayne said that he brings the rain with him from England every time he visits LA.  Visit us more often!  There were fun moments but I suspect that I will be more passionate about the actual movies next year.
