The Golden Globes
This year's Golden Globes provided some satisfaction in seeing favorites win and some motivation to see features I missed. Overall, it wasn't an exhilarating year for me, but it was more enjoyable than last year. As always, it's great seeing the television and film industries mixing.
Television
The Crown won best drama and Claire Foy won best actress for The Crown, planting a seed of interest in this dark horse series.

The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story won best limited series and Sarah Paulson won best actress for the same series, fertilizing interests that were already planted during the Emmy's.
Motion Pictures
I was so gratified to see Elle win best foreign language motion picture and for Isabelle Huppert to win best dramatic actress for the title role.
Meryl Streep's win of the Cecil B. Demille was pretty cool as well.
The SAG Awards
The SAG awards are also a splendid mixing of the film and television personalities. This was also my favorite awards show this year in regard to the winners.
Television
Once again, Sarah Paulson claimed best actress in a limited series for her work in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
This time John Lithgow won best actor in a drama series alongside Claire Foy as best actress in a drama, both for The Crown.
My favorite winner of the night was, by far, Stranger Things for best cast in a drama series! I also thought the overheated political stuff was fun.
Motion Pictures
Hidden Figures took home best cast in a motion picture. It was cool seeing two of the more fun and entertaining nominees win, this one and Stranger Things.
The unexpected highlight of the night was the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Dolly Parton to Lily Tomlin. Dolly Parton was glamorous and hilarious; it was extra special for me as I've gotten into old time county during the past year. I've never been a huge fan of Lily Tomlin, but she gave one of the best speeches at an awards ceremony I've ever heard, and she was also quite funny.
The Oscars
There was one category that stood out for me: Best Documentary Feature. The winner was O.J.: Made in America. I had finally seen The People v. O.J. Simpson: An American Crime Story and loved it, so I was surprised that there was also a documentary. This was clearly the year of O.J., and I decided to see this. The documentary portrays O.J. Simpson in a harsher light, as well as his defense team. It's a great companion to the other series. The documentary covers everything between the murder trial and the robbery trial, which the other series does not. On the other hand, the other series tells us what everyone else went on to do, whereas the documentary does not. But this category resonated for me.
As far as non-awards moments, the tourist part was mildly amusing and memorable.
Candy coming down by parachute was also a distinctive part of the ceremony.
